Synopsis
The seminar, titled “Living Structures: Integrating Digital Art into Architectural Design,” explores how to seamlessly fusion digital art and architecture. It emphasizes the importance of the collaboration of artists with the architectural design team early in the design process, particularly during the preliminary and schematic stages, to ensuring that multimedia art becomes an integral part of the building’s fabric. This early collaboration between artists, architects, and other stakeholders enables a cohesive vision, optimizing the integration of art, technology and building systems to create architectural spaces.
Key site considerations for permanent multimedia artworks, such as visibility, traffic flow, and public engagement, are examined to highlight how these factors influence the success and impact of the installations. The seminar also delves into the technical components essential for new media art projects, including display technologies, sensors, cameras, hardware, and internet connectivity. These elements are critical in creating dynamic, interactive spaces that respond to their environment and engage viewers in innovative ways.
The collaborative roles of various parties—artists, fabricators, installers, and lighting designers—are discussed in depth, emphasizing the need for coordination throughout the design, construction, and installation phases. Understanding these roles ensures that all aspects of the project are aligned, from concept to completion.
The seminar analyzes the critical interface between art and architectural design team, focusing on site preparation, building systems and infrastructure requirements to install, support and maintain the digital art installation will be explored. These elements are essential for the successful implementation of new media art within architectural settings over the life of the installation.
