Synopsis
Rooted in more than 35 years of luxury hospitality experience, this seminar explores how servant leadership can meaningfully shape both team culture and the built environment. Participants will identify the core principles of servant leadership and understand how these values directly influence guest experience by fostering awareness, empathy, and purpose-driven service. Through real-world examples, the session examines how leadership behaviors translate into the design and functionality of hotel spaces, revealing the often-overlooked connection between human-centered leadership and spatial outcomes.
Building on this foundation, the seminar evaluates the long-term impact of empathetic, service-oriented leadership on staff well-being, retention, and operational performance—and how these insights can inform design strategies that support healthier, more resilient teams. Attendees will also differentiate between traditional hierarchical leadership models and the servant leadership approach, gaining clarity on how these frameworks affect communication, collaboration, and decision-making across interdisciplinary project teams.
Finally, the seminar applies these leadership concepts to both guest-facing and back-of-house environments, offering practical guidance for integrating servant leadership into the design and operational planning of luxury hotels. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how prioritizing people ultimately transforms service culture and elevates the hospitality experience through thoughtful, intentional design.

Synopsis
In today’s competitive hospitality market, truly understanding guests goes far beyond demographic data and revenue reports. This session reveals how the “digital footprints” left by reviews, guest conversations, and competitor benchmarks can unlock game-changing insights for hotel architects, designers, and investors. We’ll explore how to uncover who your guests really are, which building features resonate—or fall flat—and where guest sentiment highlights unmet needs or hidden opportunities. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to turn data into a creative, strategic force, ensuring that every hotel project is not just commercially successful, but also authentically people-centric and future-ready.

Biography
Dr. Josep Llorca-Bofí is a Spanish architect, junior professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), and research group leader at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart (Germany). He is the founder of the "Person-focused Analysis of Architectural Design" research group, a Junior Principal Investigator fellowship at the RWTH Aachen University (Germany). Josep received his architect's license in 2015, his PhD in architectural acoustics in 2018 at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia on perceptual simulation of architecture. His research group studies the implications of urban and architectural design on the perception of people, especially in situational contexts where sound matters, by means of audio-visual simulations and sensory profiling approaches. In recent years, the group has developed a portable urban acoustic capture and simulation laboratory to collect the perceptions of individuals on urban soundscapes, to investigate the implications of a designer's decisions on different groups of people. Josep has been invited as the key-note speaker to the Erronkak conferences in 2016 and 2017 (Jakiunde Academy of Sciences, Arts and Humanities), to BauSIM 2022 in Weimar Universität (International Building Performance Simulation Association), as well as at Tongji University (China) and Euro Mediterranean University of Fez (Morocco).
